Field Trip Policy
Field trips are an excellent educational tool that supports and enhances our educational efforts. Our goal is for all students to participate in all field trips. However, that goal is secondary to the safety and security of our students and staff. Field trips present us with a duty of supervision that is greater than daily in-‐school activities. Therefore, field trip participation is an earned privilege, not a right. Students whose behavior compromises the well-‐being of the group or themselves will not be allowed to participate.
As planners and supervisors of your child’s field trips, it is our duty to monitor behavior and make decisions about participation. In an attempt to put forth objective criteria for these decisions, we have developed the following policy.
Students who consistently violate school rules pose a safety risk for themselves and others. Students who commit Stage 4 infractions will not be allowed to participate in field trips and may face additional disciplinary actions. Students who consistently violate school rules at Stage 1,2,or 3 will also be considered for exemption from field trips. Decision making for student exemption from field trips will be the responsibility of the principal, and/or with collaboration among the Core Behavior team, classroom teacher(s), and parents. Your child will receive a copy of the guidelines for his/her field trips prior to the trip .
Please take time to review the Stratton Field Trip policy with your child. Failure to return signed field trip notice does not negate adherence to the policy.
